Simple establishment, no ribbons and frills. The food is tasty, not the best, but possibly the best in this area. We had the veggie pad Thai, spicy tofu and veg rolls. Portion sizes are normal and prices very reasonable. Service is quick and friendly.

If my review had been solely on the taste of the food, I would give the place 4 stars. But we dined in, so my review is going to be based on the totality of my experience there. We ordered the Pad Thai Noodles, Yellow Curry w/Chicken, and Thai Fried Rice. Food was excellent, served steaming hot. Service was fine. For a Saturday night, there were only 2 other parties there; one of whom was dining alone. The cleanliness of the restaurant left something to be desired. Sticky table. Debris on the floor. Cobwebs in the ceiling corners (seriously, take a broom to that shiz). I don't want to go out to eat somewhere that is dirtier than my own kitchen. Clean up your act, Shallot Thai. And I don't care if you are the only Thai restaurant in the Springfield area; I will drive to Northampton for my dining experience next time.

The food and service was 4 stars. Waitstaff was very nice and attentive. The 'thai style basil' which is a grapow royal basil with minced chicken was very delicious. The grilled beef satay app was also very good and recommended. The restaurant gets only 2 stars. The booths are akward - they have arm rests on the end which makes them a little challenging. Also if you happen to look where the baseboards meet the floor, its not the cleanest. The fishtank in the dining area was dead and there is an unused bar area that it is just dark and has wine bottles lined up on counter to sort of fill the area. It does look a little sketchy from the outside too but that was not a deterrent for me. I happen to love sketchy looking places so maybe I'm not the best source for info. I think the building also contains another business so the exterior is not solely theirs and the property is adjacent to a random vacant lot. Its recommended for the food but the overall experience isn't the greatest.

I hate being one of the few "meh" reviews, but my experience was pretty meh. The meh started with the Siam Roll that was 95% crunchy roll and 5% cabbage. There really wasn't much to them at all. They were crunchy, but that's about all they had going for them. I opted for the Vegetarian Pad Thai. The pro for this was the fact that it contained carrots, zucchini, squash, broccoli, mushrooms and a few green beans. The meh part is that it was meh pad thai. It was good - tasted like pad thai - but nothing mind blowing. Also, there was a piece of egg shell in my food...it happens and it's not that big of a deal, but it is something to mention. I'm not sure I'd come back, but it is one of the only Thai options down in the Springfield area.

Food good limited selection- enjoyed the mango dishes- fresh spring rolls dipping sauce was fair- they were pre made & came out fast and room temp- ( something really got us sick within 30 minutes of eating here...) service good everything seem clean until you got to the rest room-Rest room filthy.... My son ordered spicy hot duck- it was SO HOT no one could eat it- and the few bites we had we really paid for that within the hour of dining. No I will not be back.

We've tried this place twice, once for an eat-in lunch and tonight for a take out dinner. The food is beyond reproach, the flavor are great and seasoning perfect. I think the eat-in lunch is where it is at as the lunch specials come with a spring roll, salad and good sized portion of the entree. Dinner still has good portions but is notably more expensive. Try the Siam rolls, 5 cigar thin spring rolls with a yummy filling. They are served with a sweet dipping sauce which makes a lovely, slightly addictive, combination. Also, my favorite, the crazy noodles With shrimp, chicken, veg and a wonderful tangy sauce this wide rice noodle dish is sooooo much better than Pad Thai! Hubs loves the curries and orders them spicy, but be carefully Thai curry can get a little wild and crazy although most can be ordered mild/medium- so be brave and just go for it!

Solid four stars. We ordered pad tai, the crispy duck, beef and broccoli and chicken with cashews. All the dishes were very good and served immediately after cooking (so they were piping hot). Very good service. I think our family has found a new tai place from now on! Give them a try.

We have had good experiences at this restaurant. It isn't very expensive and the food is good. I usually get the drunken noodle. I wish they were more spicy as I love spicy food, but everyone else would probably find them just right.

From the outside this restaurant looks a little sketchy but I assure you the food is not! I've never eaten in the restaurant but we've gotten takeout several times and every time the food is delicious. The hot beef of vegetables is my absolute favorite. It's sweet and spicy. Others in our group have ordered several other meals and enjoyed them just as much. The prices seem a little high but the food is definitely worth it. Our only complaint was that someone ordered a chicken and pine nut meal and the restaurant ran out of pine nuts and didn't inform us until we went to pick up the order. And it wasn't a big deal but that meal was definitely more expensive due to having pine nuts in it and they didn't do anything to change that. Other than that I have no complaints about the food. It's always hot(both temperature and spice) by the time we get home and is full of flavor! If you love spicy food they know how to add some heat into the meals, but there are plenty of options on the menu for those who prefer a mild option. Definitely recommend this place to everyone!

It was really easy to find and there was adequate parking. We got seated right away, there was only two other tables occupied. The restaurant is really cute with booths on the side. The decor is very charming. There's also a fish tank that kept my two year old amused. There's a decent selection of beers and wines. We ordered chicken satay and edamame for appetizers. The satay didn't come with pickled veggies, like I'm used to. It came with the peanut butter dipping and a sweet sauce. I was a little disappointed that there was no papaya salad :/ We ordered red curry chicken at a level 3 in spiciness (which came with either brown or white rice) and a chicken and shrimp pad Thai. The curry wasn't hot enough for me, so I asked for fresh hot chilies, which I got! I hate it when they just give you dried chili peppers. It's the fresh ones that give it the perfect taste. The service was great and the food was yummy. I will totally come again!

Great Pad-Thai. We visited Shallot Thai while visiting family in the area. In Virginia, there are many Thai restaurants but Shallot appears to be the only Thai restaurant in Holyoke. Initially apprehensive, we decided to try it and were blown away with the quality of the food as well as the service. We will definitely be back when in the area.

Thai food is one of my favorite and this place did not disappoint. They don't serve any alcohol, but it's ok I was hungry for some Thai food. The food was delicious. Started off with chicken satay & chicken & vegetable potstickers. The chicken satay was so tender and juicy & the peanut dipping sauce was awesome. I wanted to lick it clean, but I didn't. Potstickers were steamed & lovely. I had a duck entree, (sangi?) boneless duck breast which was crisp, cooked perfectly & covered in some sort of yummy sauce with vegetables & served with a side of sticky rice served in a cone shape. Nice touch. My boyfriend had the chicken & broccoli stir fry, his daughter sweet & sour chicken. Both looked awesome & they enjoyed it.

N-O. My dining partner and I walked in based on the Yelp reviews and sat for approximately 30 seconds before hightailing it out of there. Tables and chairs essentially patio furniture covered in plastic and were sticky. The floors and baseboard were filthy and covered in grease and old food. There were multiple holes in the walls from shoddy plaster not being repaired. After my partner got a look at the restroom facilities, you could not have paid us to eat here. If the dining room and bathroom are covered in that much filth, I do not want to know the state of the kitchen. Additionally, the smell and the look of the other diner's food was not appetizing.

In West Springfield for the night and looking for a highly rated restaurant. This one had 5 stars so we gave it a shot. Small but comfortable, it was about half full when we walked in on a Thursday evening. We ordered the Tom Yum soup and a seafood coconut soup. The Tom Yum was mild (not as painful) as it is in many other restaurants. The seafood coconut soup was wonderful. Main dishes - boneless tamarind duck with mango was a crispy half duck covered with a tamarind sauce. The duck was sliced nicely. The dish was served with a variety of veggies (broccoli, red pepper, baby corn, squash) all cooked perfectly and still crisp. The second dish was a seasonal pumpkin curry with seafood and veggies. It too was delicious. Both dishes were served with rice. Our hot tea cups and water glasses were constantly refilled. Service was quick and efficient. I wish we had room for dessert, but were too full. Definitely a 5 star Thai meal at a very reasonable price.

Excellent! The tom kha kai (coconut chicken galangal soup) was spectacular. Great balance of flavors and the best Thai soup I've had in a long time. I was also impressed with the mango curry. I was excited to see something a little bit different on the menu in addition to all of the traditional dishes. Finally, my Thai iced tea helped to handle the spicy curry. I'd recommend everything I ordered. For those of you who don't enjoy spicy dishes, I'll warn you that the curry had quite a bit of heat to it even though I only had ordered it as mild. Even though it had a kick to it, it wasn't to the point where it took away from the wonderful flavors of the dish. In addition to the great food, I also enjoyed the prompt and friendly service.

Great Thai place to eat without going to Northampton or Amherst. Very hard to find, and has really friendly staff. The only downside is the servings are fairly small (for lunch, never been there for dinner) so a couple appetizers and bowl of coconut soup before the main dish are needed to feed a grown person. The quality of the food is top notch, and everything is really delicious. The bill was surprisingly low, but that may be because it wasn't inflated with all the alcohol I get at the other places, due to the fact that Shallot doesn't serve alcohol :(

First time and last time here. Got the Pad Thai and fried rice to go. Total was $25. Small portions, not worth the $11.95 price per dish. Both dishes tasted bleh. My stomach felt queasy after eating. Food didn't taste fresh. Fried rice was not fluffy. Only had a few strips of meat. To make fluffy rice, you cook it the day before and let it sit overnight in the fridge. DUH!! Pad thai had no ingredients like bean sprouts, peanuts, scallions. Only had a few strips of meat, little pieces of scramble egg, 3-4 shrimp. I'm guessing all these good reviews are either fake or the people NEVER really tasted good Thai food before, and this is the best Springfield has to offer. STAY AWAY....You're better off saving your money and just go to McDonald's. SMALL PORTIONS, CRAPPY TASTE, LITTLE INGREDIENTS, and EXPENSIVE.

I've been coming here once a week for several months now, mostly for lunch. The noodle dishes are pretty good. The curry on the other hand... is fantastic!! ***Foodies, do yourselves a favor and splurge a little for the Siam Duck (ask for it spicy). It is simply awesome. A wonderfully sized portion of duck breast with skin on, perfectly crisp with a great curry and steamed veggies. This dish gets in my belly at least once a week. I think this is the hidden gem menu item of the Valley and they deserve some respect for it.

Went for the first time and I'll be back to try some of the other dishes. My dining partner and I ordered the Chili Duck and the Pad Thai. My dining partner thought the pad thai was a bit too sweet - something I thought about the thai iced tea that I had ordered. It was good but really sweet. Actually, so was the duck. I think they like sugar as an ingredient. The duck, though, was really good - the meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender and and crispy skin that goes just perfectly with rice (your choice of white or brown). The tenderness of the meat I just couldn't get over - the sauce was not bad - although a bit like General Tso's Duck. It should be popular given local tastes. But it didn't seem too... um, Thai? I have to admit I'm not an expert, though. We wrapped up with the thai custard - a coconutty eggy flan-like pudding that very good. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other dishes.

Just tried it for the first time on the recommendation of a friend. So happy I did. Great food and great service. The curry is well-balanced in flavor, the shumai incredibly delicate and and the potstickers are just perfect! Restaurant is fairly basic looking and small, but it's the food that's the star! Can't wait to return.

We decided to give this place a try after reading the reviews of fellow yelpers, and they did not steer us wrong. Shallot doesn't look like much from the outside. It's located in a nondescript cement-block building on a commercial drag of West Springfield that looks like it's seen better days. I'm ashamed to say that I've driven past it countless times and thought "Huh. What a weird place for a Thai restaurant" and mistakenly filed it under the places-I'll-probably-never-go category . That's not to say I'm snobby about food -- far from it -- but it would probably take a personal recommendation to get me to pull into a strip mall to dine. Ok, so... the ambiance is fine. Comfortable, quaint, with perhaps the most polite server ever. My only suggestion on the look-and-feel front would be to ditch the overhead hot-spots and go with the white string lights that are in the windows and some candles on the tables. Or at least dim the track lighting. But that may just be me...I'm kind of weird about lighting. The food was fantastic. We started with the mango spring roll and a coconut chicken soup. The spring roll was light and refreshing, and the soup was, in a word --DIVINE. It turned out to be our favorite find of the night...and that's saying a lot, because it had some seriously stiff competition. Complex flavors, but perfectly blended. Then we shared the country pad thai and a beef massaman curry. Both were lovely. The massaman was exceptional. I think next time I would ask for a bit more heat, and I probably won't get the beef again because it was quite chewy. We agreed that we were too full for dessert, but at a new restaurant, that doesn't really seem to factor and we couldn't resist trying something new :) So we shared the thai custard with sticky rice, then rolled ourselves back to the car and vowed to return and work our way through the curry menu, as lots of the options looked good.

Excellent food. I had the chicken basil; spicy, flavorful and fresh. Others had green curry duck, crazy noodles and Thai chicken and everyone was happy. The reviewer that complained of of 'lawn furniture,' and 'holes in the wall' was apparently at a different restaurant. Totally incorrect.

My husband and I have been trying to find local places that make a decent Pad Thai. Shallot is where it's at! It's a tiny little place that you've likely overlooked while speeding up Route 5 in West Springfield, but you should stop in! The Pad Thai is where we started, and we were pleasantly surprised at how great it was. We moved on through the menu multiple times with take-out on the weekends. The mango yellow curry is my favorite, but my husband likes to dance around the menu, trying everything he can. We've only eaten in-house once, mostly because it's a little small and cramped inside. The parking lot is also small, and usually almost full when we head to Shallot, so we just order ahead and take it all home for a comfy, delicious meal. If you want something besides the chain food in the area, TRY SHALLOT! It's a little pricier than, say, Chili's, but here's hoping you enjoy the change up and fresher ingredients.

Wow what a surprise given a not so great location! The stir fry chicken dish was served piping hot, very fast and beautifully presented. I would definitely recommend this place. Don't let the neighborhood or the painball supplies store discourage you. The restaurant was full and it was clear everyone there was a regular. Thumbs up.

Was craving some Thai food after spending a day at Sixflags New England, this place was one of the closest to the park. (Thanks, yelp!) We walked into the place at around 9 pm, there were only a few tables that are filled. Beautiful, cozy lighting in the interior with classical music playing, quiet and peaceful atmosphere. We ordered country pad thai, pumpkin curry, basil fried rice and chicken cashew. The service was very fast and the plating is beautiful (the jasmine rice was in the shape of a funnel). And the best part is, the food was DIVINE, perhaps the best Thai restaurant I have ever been to. The basil fried rice was especially tasty, the rice was cooked perfectly, each individual rice drop is distinct and flavorful, the scent of basil blended extremely well with the spiciness and the taste of veggies. The country pad thai with shrimp and chicken, the perfect balance of sweet and sour taste mixed with taste of baked peanuts, scallions, and noodle cooked to perfect consistency. The chicken cashew was extremely tender, and the vegetables are cooked to the perfect degree, I can't describe how much I enjoyed the mushrooms in it alone. I really wish I lived closer to this place, the food there is truly truly delicious. The portions are not ridiculously large, it's a tiny bit more pricey compared to other thai restaurants, but not so pricey for the perfect food!

I can't tell either I've been spoiled with great Thai restaurants in Boston, or I just had a bad batch of greasy, tasteless pad thai, but this place just did not impress me at all. The place was near empty on a Saturday night and the servers were certainly not at a rush to refill our water or bring out the food. Maybe I'll check it out again, but my initial impressions certainly gave me quite a scare.

I want to give this place a second chance, because my first and only carryout experience was not that great. I love pad Thai, and usually use it to judge Thai restaurants. I ordered that and the chili duck, because everyone here seemed to like it. Expensive! Those two entrees alone totaled nearly $30. Duck was dry and chewy, and the pad Thai bland.

The Pad Thai is pretty darn yummy. The atmosphere is super cute, kind of like secret hole in the wall that not everyone knows about. It's tiny but adorable and conveniently located on Rt 5. My dad's a hard core Chinese food fan and a definite meat eater plus he's super hard to please, but he really liked the sweet & sour chicken so it must be delicious. I wish they delivered but I like that they don't. Makes it unique.

Despite the good reviews we read on yelp, my poor boyfriend was running to the bathroom after eating the shrimp soup and eggplant scallop dish. We were on route from NYC to Vermont so needless to say, our road trip was saddled with many emergency stops. Not fun.

One thing I like to do before going to a restaurant, and obviously writing my review, is to check out what others have said. I'm always interested in interpreting what others write. There have been a few times I have been surprised however. By surprised I mean, how do the restaurant owners not read Yelp and not fix the issue. First time I was shocked was at another restaurant, where there were complaints of fruit flies. Went to the bar for a cocktail and literally asked for a coaster to cover my drink fearing part of the swarm was going to reside in my glass. This time, and now regarding Shallot, I read about ants from another reviewer. Sat down at the table, received our menu, and within 3 minutes there was an ant strolling across our table. Luckily it was the one and only ant we saw all night - but an ant nonetheless. Ok - next topic. The food is absolutely fantastic. I had a pumpkin curry, and the woman with me had the homestyle pad thai. I have to say we were both quite impressed. The pumpkin was a nice surprise for me, as it's not something you see on a menu everyday. It was also cooked exactly as I had hoped. It still had a little bit of bite to it, not just mush or paste (more ripe watermelon less baked beans). The balance between the spicy heat and the cooling coconut milk was spot on. Nice job. The homestyle pad thai was also cooked very well. Great balance of sweet and spice. I am not a fan of fried tofu, but if I was, this is what I would hope it would taste like. There is nothing fancy about the place, but it's also not a dive. There was only one woman working the entire room. Luckily there were only about 5 other tables occupied, and they seemed staggered in her favor. We also had a pretty cute welcoming. On our walk to the front door, there was a young girl at the door looking out. Once she saw we were coming to the restaurant, she was litereally jumping with excitement, grabbing menus, and over to alert the host. If every restaurant was that happy to see you coming..... Without a doubt I will be back, maybe with a couple of Raid Ant Bait Traps hidden in my socks, but back for sure.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Shallots! I am so happy I found a Thai place in Springfield and didn't have to go all the way to Northampton. I got a dish that I always get at a Thai restaurant - the massaman curry with beef. It was soooo good. I was worried because this is the first Thai place I've tried in Western Mass and Central Mass has a lot of great ethnic places to eat. Shallot was just as good as any place in Central Mass though. The vegetables were fresh and meat was not chewy (like you sometimes get with cheap chinese food places). If you like spicy, they also did a great job making it spicy (I asked for extra spice). I also got their mango summer rolls. I'm a huge fan of summer rolls in general (mango, pork, shrimp...anything in them is good with me!) so I may be biased, since they are pretty simply, but I thought Shallot did a great job with it. My friend and I also shared their (I think "Country" style") Pad Thai, which was their spicy version of pad thai. I didn't think it was very spicy but it was still delicious. Not too peanut-y, which can make it too salty and too heavy sometimes. I wouldn't say its cheap eats but its pretty much the same as any other Thai place. I wouldn't mind if their portions were a little bigger considering the price. However, rice (white or brown) comes with the curry dishes so that is nice. I would go here again in a heartbeat...mmm can't wait!

This place is a memorable find. Is it fancy? Nope. Is it in a nice location? Nope. Is it romantic? Yes, if your date is not pretentious. Is it delicious? HELL YES!! I did default to neutral and order the Country Pad Thai, isn't that best way to measure a Thai place? I think so. It was quite perfect actually, and reminded me of some my better street dining during my days in Chiang Mai.... My buddy ordered a seasonal Pumpkin Curry, and I have to admit I was a bit jealous. It was a pumpkin version of Massaman Curry, with a bit of Thanksgiving flair. It worked! ....and i'm usually Anti-Asian Fusion, preferring authentic cuisines... I think we had some Mango Rolls too

We went here for lunch, and what a great lunch menu at bargain prices! I ordered the pik king curry with beef. The beef was nice and tender, the curry was spicy and delicious, served with fresh green beans, peppers and pine nuts. My wife ordered a lunch special, which came with a spring roll, a potsticker, and one of the specials on the menu which was a pretty good deal for 8.95. The decor isn't the greatest and not really kept up, but the food is fantastic from what we sampled. Service was very attentive and friendly as well.

In a city where finding good, diverse food options is a challenge, Shallot in West Springfield is a great option for Thai cuisine. My wife and I went last October(?) because we'd been searching for a place nearby that had good pad Thai. Turns out that we didn't have to look very hard. The spring rolls were very good, full of flavor, and the pad Thai was the best we've had so far. I'm definitely encouraged by the quality of what we had to come back and try something different (which, considering all we've had is pad Thai, will be anything we eat). Update 10/27: my wife and I have gotten food from Shallot several times over the last couple of months. Between the consistently excellent food and the variety of great entrees, I felt like they deserved a fifth star. No complaints whatsoever!

Great Thai food. I got the country pad thai, and it was some of the best Thai food I've ever had. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for good Thai food.

If I could un-see what I had witnessed just moments after eating my food, Shallot would have received five stars. My boyfriend and I had a craving for Thai and wanted to try a restaurant outside of our comfort zone of Northampton. My Yelp research led us to Shallot. To make a long story short, the food was incredible. The Pad Thai was the best I have ever consumed. The mango rolls were out of this world. The reason why they are getting one star is because there were ants crawling on our table! Tiny, disgusting ants. Now, if there are ants out in the dining area, I can only imagine was is going on in the kitchen. When I told the waitress she said that she would clean it and didn't even apologize. It's too bad because the food is incredible. But if you want ants and God knows what else in your food then this place is where it's at.

We order take-out from Shallot on a fairly regular basis. Everything is consistently perfect and not once has an order mistake ever been made. The pad thai is delicious as well as the yellow curry. Thai iced teas are always made perfectly. The mango rolls are my favorite thing on the menu. The appetizers are all spectacular from beef and chicken satay to the siam rolls and tofu triangles. The dishes here are not distinguishable from another well-known Thai restaurant in Northampton. It's almost as if the two are owned by the same folks. We have been very pleased with all of our experiences here, both dining in and take-out. We have never, EVER experienced any problems with bugs in or near our food. (Also, giving poor reviews because you had a stomach ache isn't really fair to the restaurant since that's kind of your problem unless it's legitimate food poisoning.) We've brought out-of-town friends here on a few occasions and they loved it also. So glad to see this on Riverdale Street. It's a welcomed break from all of the fast food joints that litter this road.

Finally tried Shallot for lunch - ordered takeout. Had the pad Thai and shallot fried rice. Portion was a bit small for the price, but was very tasty! It was a bit greasy and the to go chopsticks were terrible quality but to have good thai in western ma - I'll forgive it. The boyfriend had never had Thai food and enjoyed the rice, and later requested more and another visit. Can't wait for round two.

My girlfriend and myself decided to give this place a try, despite what seems like years of drive-by's followed by comments similar to "...hmmm...looks closed?" due to it's lackluster exterior: it is located in as miserable a location as you are going to find on Riverdale Road in West Side, outside of any existing strip-mall complexes, conjoined with a paint-ball supply store of all things. I'm willing to bet that this plays a role in limiting the number of patrons in attendance at any given time, hence the impression that it may very well be defunct. After reading the great reviews here on Yelp, however, we became very excited about the prospect for a potential 'diamond in the rough' find, and overall, I would say that is exactly what we discovered. In terms of ambience (interesting note: spell check is insisting this spelling is incorrect despite it being preferred to the French ambiance. Interesting.), the interior isn't much of an improvement on the exterior. Lighting is intense (think kitchen lighting at home or similar) and booths slide all over the place (I'm 6'5" so things were a bit 'tight' getting into my seat, hence the sliding); there is an overall sense of being slapped together a la bachelor pad. This being said, however, I could care less save for the lighting. If your chick is put off by mere appearances, you might be in trouble (but you already know this going in hehe). There is the obligatory fishtank replete with sickly looking goldfish for the 'live seafood action' fans out there: DEFO bring your camera! To get to the meat of our experience, the food was great with ONE notable exception. In a previous review it is mentioned that the beef isn't chewy as is so often the case with these types of restaurants. Unfortunately, we got a batch of some seriously tough to conquer beef in our Massaman curry; the curry itself and the veggies were flawless despite this and I honestly felt a bit put out that the previous review no longer held true in this respect as I only ordered beef on the basis of this earlier experience. Oh well, perhaps it was a bad night for beef? Appetizers consisted of the much lauded mango roll and the coconut soup. The soup was brilliant: lots going on there and leaving your mouth saying 'wow that was cool'. The mango roll was very cool, particularly in presentation, but ultimately not nearly the 'wow' that the soup was in terms of flavor. The entree's were the aforementioned massaman curry (beef) and the country-style pad thai. The pad thai was very good; the best I've had thus far (though I must admit I'm a relative newbie to pad thai) but was disappointingly soft in terms of heat; I'm assuming you have to request spicy as with most of these places BUT I still find it irritating that the menu displays two little peppers next to this dish given it's mild character. Curry was fantastic as noted above, only issue being the state of the beef itself (which I realize might beg some head scratching...wasn't the beef center stage? I suppose it is one of those things I want to believe was a simple 'one-off'). Dessert was coconut custard over sticky rice, with some sort of potentially rose water honey'ish syrup drizzled over the thing. Again, beautiful presentation, and flavor was very delicate for a dessert...very nice. One special note for the wait staff: the young dude who waited on us was absolutely bend over backwards friendly and helpful, and couldn't stop gushing over how thrilled he was that we were there. Will definitely make the journey again, and cross fingers that the beef isn't chewy next time.

My first time visiting shallot Thai and I was overall highly pleased with my visit! I ordered the pad Thai and chicken satay. The chicken stood out for me more because it came with a side of peanut sauce that was amazing!! Overall great food, the staff was ok but I would come back!

I love good Thai food and this place serves an americanized version of the flavors of Thailand. Overall Good food. A little too sweet for my taste but so far is the best Thai restaurant in the valley. Tried the places in Northampton and was very dissapointed. But Shallot was much better and flavorful than the other Thai places. Love the way they serve the rice in the shape of a cone. Too little rice, make the cone a bit bigger please!

The food at Shallot is ideal. Recently had the pad thai and duck massaman curry. The pad thai came exactly as I like it, with plenty of egg. The curry was just as great, and the pieces of duck were larger and more succulent than I've seen from other thai places.

So, I have to say, most of my experiences here, in regards to service, have not been the best. They're very unorganized and slow. I've come in long before other customers and gotten served long AFTER they were. One time while waiting for them to clear out a table for us (which took over 15 minutes even though the place was empty), they made about 3 or 4 couples wait to be seated after us (when they could have seated them and allowed them to start looking at the menus while we waited for our table to be cleared). They need a lesson in Six Sigma, that's all lol... BUT... dun dun dun.... When they put that food on the table (and please, for the the love of your taste-buds, order something more adventurous than the standard Pad Thai), LORD HAVE MERCY. It's a flavor explosion! All of the spice are just so perfectly blended, and the dishes are amazing. I've had their special, Pumpkin Curry (red curry sauce, I believe), and even though I'd filled up on appetizers, I could not put the ford down. Every single time I've been the food has blown me away. I know western Massachusetts is lacking some good Thai food. This place is definitely it!

Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. We had the place to ourselves. Best Tom Yum any place around (hot and sweet soup), delightful beef satay, and the highlight of the evening was the Pumpkin Curry! Husbands Pad Thai was wonderful and I really enjoyed the Thai Iced Tea! The service was very attentive! I don't know why people stand in lines for chain food down the road when this little place has some spectacular food and atmosphere! We will be back for sure!

My girlfriend and I have been visiting Shallot since soon after it opened (the end of 2010) and simply love it. We were actually worried at first that it wouldn't get enough customers to survive but luckily the word seems to be spreading and we see more people there all the time. I joined Yelp to write this review and am kind of embarrassed it's taken me this long. All their dishes have been delicious with my personal favorites the yellow and mango curries while my gf's is the crazy noodle. I'd also point out that Thai tends to be one of the few food styles with multiple dairy-free desert options (since they tend to use coconut milk for most things). The staff is very friendly and courteous and is a family-run. Inside, the feel isn't fancy so much as comfortable and relaxed. The building is a bit easy to miss, so keep an eye out for the sign and paintball shop next door. It's great to have such a good restaurant close by so be sure to check them out.

The food was okay but the service was horrendous. Practically the worst I've ever had. The young man that waited on us seemed lost, rolled his eyes when he saw our party, and then said we could sit in the back booths, which are elevated and you have to take you're shoes off. No reason was given when I asked why. We ordered pot stickers, which were thick and tasteless. The pumpkin curry I ordered was okay at the best, really sweet. The vegetables were very firm for a curry. One of my fellow diners had a hair in her plate. The food didn't sit well at all afterwords. I don't know if it was an off day, and frankly I don't care.

Wish this place wasn't so far from where I live :( My friends and I went here after we did a Craigslist run around the area. We ordered the pad thai, pad see ew, and curry with seafood in it. I'm usually not a fan of curry because it's always so spicy, so I wasn't a big fan of the curry dish... BUT the pad thai and pad see ew was on point. It was delicious. I'm from Ca and I've tried a lot of thai places and this one is definitely one of the best. We ended the night with some mango and sticky rice which was alright, I've had better. If you're looking for some good solid Thai food, you won't be disappointed. P.S. They add a cute little touch with the straws by making an origami flower with the straw paper when they bring your water out.

I went for lunch and had the cashew chicken, which I asked for "spicy and don't hold back". It was served piping hot with fresh ingredients, the chicken was tender, the portion generous, veges al dente. Plenty of "heat" though a bit more garlicky than I like. I got brown rice with it (no extra charge). The side salad was tasty. The service was fine and the waiter did not pester us or rush us (we were the only patrons). The decor was sparse but the place was warm and cozy, the goldfish in the tank appeared healthy, and there were no bugs except as we were paying the bill a nagging fruitily arrived at the table. Nothing to prevent us from returning when in that area (I live in Northampton). I'll just ask to hold the garlic next time.

Stopped in early in the evening on a Monday to finally try this place out. I'd been meaning to for ages, and never got to it.... glad I decided to! I started off, as so many others have, with the mango roll. Nice fresh ingredients, and the dipping sauce added some good flavor. Next I tried the Tom Yum Kung (Hot&sour soup w/shrimp) and, well, I could have died happy right then and there. This is by far the best tom yum I've had in this area... and ranks up there with the best I've ever had. Absolutely delicious. For a main course I got the Thai-style basil chicken. Perhaps it was because it was overshadowed by the soup, but this wasn't all that exciting. It was very good, mind you, and when I eat the leftovers on their own tomorrow, it may stand on its own. But I didn't find it to be anything exceptional. Service was great, and very friendly, and I left there a very happy camper. I look forward to going back and trying some curry and noodle dishes!

I was very impressed by this place. After leaving NYC, I have missed those famous curry dished. This place was able to satisfy that. They have a good selection of basic Thai dished, but of course I had to go with the red curry, with the most spice possible. The food was everything I expect from Thai, a lot of spice backed up with loads of flavor. They do have a slightly hidden location, but I do recommend everybody to try and seek them out

They do a very nice job of balancing seasonings. Not overpowering, but far from bland. The galangal soup was probably the best I've had. Prices were average to slightly high-side for the genre all things considered - portions were a little small for our work weary muscles to recover with. I would go again, but only if I were less hungry. Not ideal for construction workers after a long day, much more so for an unpretentious night out with the woman or something.

Went here for the first time a few days ago. I ordered the yellow curry with beef & my partner ordered the basil chicken (both "very spicy"). Hands down, this is the best Thai food we've had in the area! The service was a little lackluster, but the food completely made up for it! Will definitely go there whenever in need of a Thai fix.

I am so happy Yelp steered me in the right direction with Shallot. Since being new to the area I only knew of good Thai food in Northhampton which is quite the drive from Agawam. So Jessica and I decided to give this a go. We took our fellow yelpers advice and got the mango spring rolls for an appetizer that was light and refresing the accompanying sauce was warm, sweet, and spicy. I also got the sweet and spicy soup with shrimp that I thought had the perfect amount of heat that sent a warmth throughout your body while not being overbearingly spicy like the Thai Garden in Northhampton. I got the country style Pad Thai and Jessica got the basil fried rice for entrees. Both were seasoned to perfection and speaking for the Pad Thai it was the best I have ever had. For dessert we got the banana spring rolls drizzled in honey. Again it was amazing. This place is definitely going to become one of our regulars. Don't pass this one up you cannot beat the quality or the prices.

Very quick to-go service, excellent eat-in service, convenient location, decent food. The Shumai is good, and the Country Style Pad Thai is the best around. Their seafood curry comes in a close second to the Thai Place, but it's a close second I will take for the convenience of Shallot being on my way home from work.

I eat Thai cuisine wherever I travel. I discovered this restaurant because it was equadistant from my home and a friend's. I ordered green curry with chicken, dumplings, crazy noodles (pad see yu), and red curry with shrimp, and a side of edamame. I am not exaggerating when I say that every single dish was better than any I have had before. This place is an undiscoverrd gem. We live an hours drive away but my wife and I are already planning our next visit. To top it off, the place is run by a young Thai couple, and the service was so sincere. They are starting small, and I hope they relocate to my city.

Very cold due to lack of electricity from the storm, but they were accommodating none-the-less. I really enjoyed the hot-and-sour soup, and I had the spicy chicken basil. It was very good, and as another reviewer mentions, they do pay attention to presentation. The staff was very friendly. In fact, without power they didn't have to let us eat in the restaurant, but they took care of us. I would give them 4 stars over all, but I'm giving them .5 stars extra for the awesome rice-pyramid and another .5 for serving us in spite of the lack of electricity.

We had just left the movie theatre in West Springfield and were looking for something new to try. Switched on the trusty Yelp app and came across reviews for this place. We'd driven by and were curious, because the location is so strange - not a place one would expect to find good food of any variety. However, the food - as others have indicated - was delicious. The service wonderful and the ambiance quite charming for the location. My husband tried the Mango Curry and loved it. I asked for a vegetarian recommendation and tried the Spicy Tofu, which was also great - although my one complaint with the dish was that there wasn't really a sauce - it was more of a dry dish - just so you know. I am very anxious to try the green curry there - that's one of my favorite dishes and I am looking forward to see how they prepare it. The food was ready very quickly - but not too quickly, and the brown rice pyramids were a lovely touch. The prices were decent - cheaper than in Northampton for sure - However, I am not sure why my tofu dish was the same price as the dish my husband had with shrimp and chicken. Oh well - it was worth it. I recommend you check this place out - I look forward to going there again.

I went there with a friend after a midweek workout / practice. My first impression was that the restaurant was very small and quaint. After surveying the room I noticed there were a couple of cool modern raised tatami seating style booths which would make for a fun double date evening. I ordered the "Crazy Noodles" which was a mouth watering interesting label to describe their version of basil Pad See Ew. I added tofu to the dish that was served with shrimp and chicken. There were no alcoholic beverage options but there was the normal soft drink options. I normally eschew both appetizers and desserts, but my friend did order a mango roll, which looked on the small side but was tasty. The meal was served in a timely manner and I was happy with my first bite which was savory and not overpoweringly spicy. I ordered a spice level of 2-1/2 which was perfect for my level. I'm not a huge fan of dry chicken thrown into dishes and that's what this felt like to me, but the noodles and sauce were very good. There was a good mix of dessert options including fried ice cream and some kind of coconut / custard / rice dessert. I'm looking forward to trying another menu or amping up the spice level on my next visit.

I had been there today for dinner after reading the reviews. I had my own doubts about the place. And being a Vegetarian, did not know if I would be able to satisfy my urge for good Thai food, but the food was just AWESOME. We had Mango Rolls which we tried for the 1st time was really fresh and the sauce was delicious. Then we ordered Green Curry with Tofu & Vegetables, to our surprise, the quantity of curry was quite good. The Rice accompanied was quite less. Had to order Extra 2 Rice, but it was good. Service was very good and quick. And young couple were very welcoming and quite friendly. Being Monday evening, we were the only one there for the dinner. The place was very neat and clean, not like any other restaurants which we had been too, had strong smell of sea food. My wife who usually do not like eating Thai food in the restaurants was also pleased with the taste. We are certainly going to visit more frequently.

Shallot Thai is one of my favorite places to grab dinner in the Springfield area. The food is always good, and the staff is super friendly and nice. I usually order some kind of curry dish, and it is always delicious. The 3 star spicy level is usually perfect for me (i enjoy a good kick). I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Thai food. It is small inside, but very clean. A definite hidden gem!

I have been searching for a Thai restaurant close to Westfield for some time now and I found this place thanks to yelp. We decided to give it a try over the weekend and picked up some take-out on our way home. I got the traditional pad thai and the potstickers appetizer. The potstickers were ok...the appetizer came with four potstickers and a side of a garlic/ginger type soy sauce. There was nothing really to complain about, I've just had potstickers from the grocery store that were just as good. The pad thai was good, I enjoyed it. My only complaint is that it was way underdressed/underseasoned. I am used to the overwhelming aroma and taste of the peanut sauce when I bite into pad thai. With this pad thai, I mostly tasted noodle, not peanut. It wasn't bad -- it was fine and we'd likely order it again when we're really craving thai food. But in the meantime, we'll continue our search for a great thai restaurant close to the westfield area.

Visited this place for the first time after finding it on Yelp... I miss having the coconut curry and sticky rice and this place provided the perfect fix for me. The bar is very high because I've have Thai food at several other places and also in Thailand so I'm just going to give this place four stars. Let's just leave it at that and let you try it yourself.

It was my first time here after seeing all these reviews! I ordered the steam hot pot dumplings, definitely different from those dumplings at the Chinese restaurant. The soy ginger sauce goes well with the dumpling. I also ordered the beef massaman curry, Siam duck and pad Thai (all with mild spiciness). I never really liked curry but I was willing to try it one more time. And I'm glad I did. Between the massaman and the duck curry, I preferred the duck. Both are different. The massaman was richer in taste (you can taste a little bit of the coconut creme they use). The duck was very crispy and the pad thai was mediocre. I didn't know this was actually a lot for 2 people haha. But everything was alright, a little bit salty for me. The place was smaller than I thought though and the tables looked old. But I'd go back to try other foods.
